Worship & Music

Worship

We gather for worship each Sunday at 10:00AM. Our services are occasions of celebration as we give thanks for God's goodness and salvation. Service leadership is shared by the Pastor and members of the congregation. Our Adult Choir performs each week from September through June, with our Bell Choir and other musicians joining in on a regular basis. All children are welcome in worship, and before they are dismissed to Sunday School there is a special Children's Sermon. The Sacrament of Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month, as well as other special services.

Music

The music program at MIPC responds to the needs of the congregation as expressed through the Worship and Music Committee. The music program at MIPC provides many opportunities for members and guests to express their talents. Each activity is briefly described below. New members are welcome at any time of year!

Adult Choir:
The Adult Choir, directed by Kevin F. Story, provides musical leadership and choral anthems during worship from September through June. Composed of members ages 12 and up, they rehearse Wednesdays at 7:15PM and before worship on Sundays, usually at 9:15AM. In a typical year, the choir will prepare and present to the congregation well over 40 anthems which vary in musical style from pre-classical to post-modern.

Bell Choir:
MIPC's Bell Choir, kept under the watchful eye of our own Pastor Twyla, plays at special services or with the Adult Choir on occasion. They meet somewhat regularly on Wednesday nights at 6:00PM. The Bell Choir has varied in size, shape, and age over the years. To be a handbell ringer, one must exhibit very unique qualities: if you can breathe, count to four, and swing your arm in a circular motion, you qualify!

Instrumentalists:
MIPC offers the opportunity for instrumentalists to contribute to worship by participating in the congregational hymns, choral anthems, and meditational music. In addition to our standard accompaniment of organ and piano, you might hear a bassoon, clarinet, flute, oboe, guitar, saxophone, bass, drums, violin, cello, or, on rare occasion, lute or bagpipes.

Youth Music:
In the past, MIPC has the blessing of having an in-residence Christain Rock Band. The C.L.A.I.M. was comprised of members of our high school Youth Group and has performed at the church, the Presbytery Camp in Holmes, NY, and at other area events. Whenever any of our young people want to get up and praise the Lord through music (as often they do), we are more than glad to let the Holy Spirit pour out of them!

Children's Instrumental Ensemble:
The Children's Instrumental Ensemble exists under the direction of Bill Goodland. While anyone is welcome to play, the selections are geared towards children who have at least one year experience playing a band or orchestral instrument in school. Rehearsals are generally after service for several weeks preceding a performance. The ensemble performs several times a year.
